CURRENT WORK

Though the vessel form continues to be a focal point of his work, Joel’s latest pursuit is creating ceramic percussion instruments, based on the non-skinned "UDU", drum from West Africa. Many of the pieces are sculptural, and involve components that are "Shakers", as well as the drums. The pieces are burnished and pit-fired, resulting in very beautiful and decorative functioning percussive instruments.

He is also working on a series of outdoor decorative tile furniture pieces as seen in the "Garden Love Seat" and "Picnic Table". To see a larger view, click on the photos below.
